PM Modi’s approval rating soars to 75% in February 2024: Report

This year's survey that comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections said that the highest ratings came from cities in the North zone (92 per cent).

A recent survey has found that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval rating has gone up to 75 per cent in February this year. The findings were published by the Ipsos IndiaBus PM Approval Rating Survey on Tuesday.

The approval rating on how Modi handled his job as the Prime Minister of the country last stood at 65 per cent in September 2023.

The findings from past years show that the overall approval rating of PM Modi has increased over time — it stood at 60 per cent in December 2022, 67 per cent in February 2023, 65 per cent in September 2023 and 75 per cent in February 2024.

This year’s survey that comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections said that the highest ratings came from cities in the North zone (92 per cent). It was followed by the East zone (84 per cent) and West zone (80 per cent). Similarly, a few of the countries’ tier 1 cities also contributed to the 84 per cent of the approval rating, while tier 3 cities accounted for 80 per cent of them.

The lowest rating came from the South zone (35 per cent). With regard to the age cohort, the highest ratings came from the 45+ group (79 per cent).

The survey also highlighted the sectors that the participants thought the government performed well in. While works in education (76 per cent), sanitation (67 per cent )and healthcare (64 per cent) topped the list, the worst rating was given to initiatives taken by the government to curb corruption (42 per cent), unemployment (43 per cent), and inflation (44 per cent).

Ipsos India’s official attributed the increase in the PM’s popularity to recent major and populist initiatives, especially the Ram Temple consecration and the G20 summit.

“Some of the big bang initiatives like opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the temple in the UAE, taking a stand on global issues independent of the influence of any Western power, initiatives in space, hosting the G20 Summit successfully in India, giving a fillip to Make in India with major global players choosing to manufacture in India, have all contributed to the spike in approval ratings of the PM,” said Parijat Chakraborty, Country Service Line Leader, Public Affairs, Corporate Reputation, ESG and CSR, Ipsos India.
