The conviction of the secretary general of the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea by the Dixinn court caused shock waves within the Guinean journalistic community. Sékou Jamal Pendessa, emblematic figure of the fight for press freedom, was sentenced to three months in prison for calling for demonstrations against internet and media censorship in the country.

The verdict fell like a hammer blow, leaving journalists and their supporters stunned. Despite this heavy sentence, the spirit of struggle and resistance remains strong among media professionals in Guinea. Voices were raised to call for solidarity and mobilization in favor of the Guinean press, whose right to freedom of expression is threatened.

Ibrahima Sory and Lincoln Soumah, from FIM FM radio, called for people not to give up in the face of adversity. The conviction of Sékou Jamal Pendessa only strengthens their determination to defend press freedom, even at the cost of personal sacrifices.

In this climate of tension and repression, the Press Union called for a general assembly at the Labor Exchange to discuss the actions to be taken to defend the rights of journalists and freedom of expression in Guinea.

This conviction raises crucial questions about the state of press freedom in the country and calls for collective mobilization to confront attacks on the freedom to inform and express oneself. It is essential that the international community remains vigilant and provides support to journalists and press freedom defenders in Guinea.
